Tedy Jusuf (Him Tek Ji)

 Indonesian struggle cannot be separated from the help of various groups of people, one of which is the Chinese community. Chinese citizens' struggle for Indonesian independence is no different from the struggle of other tribes. During the war of independence from 1945-1949 many fighters of Chinese descent were involved in fighting against the Dutch at the front, back line, or in the Dutch occupied territories. The veterans were found in a number of regions, such as East Java, Central Java, West Java, Jakarta, Sumatra and other regions in Indonesia. 
One of them is Tedy Jusuf (Him Tek Ji) Tedy was born in Bogor on May 24, 1944. Him Tek Ji was 10 years old when he saw his first real soldier in a camp of the Indonesian National Army (TNI) placed near his school in North Jakarta where he grew up. Every day he went to see the soldiers training and he knew one day he would become a soldier. In accordance with his childhood dreams.

 
Tedy first attended a Chinese secondary school in Pa Hwa (Chinese Patikuan School) to junior high school level. He then moved to public school and graduated in 1962 in science. Him Tek Ji enrolled in the military academy when he finished school. He graduated in 1965 as Lt. Teddy Jusuf.Despite experiencing a lot of discrimination in the early days of the army, Tedy rose to the rank of Brigadier General in 1994 and was appointed a member of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in 1996 representing the Republic of Indonesia Armed Forces at that time.An important position held by Tedy Jusuf in his military career included:

  •     Deputy Commander of 507th Infantry Battalion Kodam V Brawijaya
  •     RTP 16 Combat Detachment Commander in East Timor
  •     Commander of Kodim 0503 / West Jakarta
  •     Kodam IV Diponegoro Planning Assistant
  •     Commander of Korem 131 / Santiago, Manado 
Tedy was finally asked to retire from active military service in 1999. However, during the Soeharto era, he was not known as a Chinese.Tedy Jusuf was one of the founding figures who participated in declaring the establishment of the Chinese Chinese Social Society on September 28, 1998 and serving as General Chairperson for the period 1998-2000. "As chairman of the Indonesian Chinese Social Society, I see no special emphasis on promoting new Chinese-Indonesian identities or giving communities a greater role so that they can prove that they are truly Indonesian citizens."In addition, he was a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives in 1995-1999 from the ABRI faction at that time.After Soeharto's resignation, Tedy became active in the Chinese community. He later became chairman of the Indonesian Chinese Marga Social Association (PSMTI), one of the largest Chinese Chinese organizations founded in 1998. This organization was the first Chinese ethnic social organization in the post-Soeharto era that had members with Chinese and Indonesian education in Jakarta. .
